It's Time You Live the Tahoe Lifestyle

By: Jenay Aiksnoras

Why did you move to Tahoe?  Was it the sun, the mountains, the Winters or the Summers that brought you to the basin?  Perhaps it was a job, your significant other, or to escape from the race.  Regardless of how you ended up here, you are now in Tahoe and it’s time to start living!

DISCOVER

Beyond your sofa and front porch there lies a year-round playground.  It’s time to discover your passion.  Are you an endless explorer?  A water-nymph?  Do you seek to commune with nature or socialize with others?  Step outside of your comfort zone and try something new.

Discover your passion for mountain biking by becoming a member of TAMBA (Tahoe Area Mountain Bike Association).  Through collaboration with the local forest service, an incredible network of trails is actively being created.  Dig in the dirt and move around rocks during their trail days.  Party down and win sweet prizes from Outdoor Gear Lab and other local donors during their seasonal parties.

Perhaps your model of transport is a good pair of hiking boots or running shoes.  Many of the trails in the basin are multi-use which means you can use the TAMBA maps to guide your next day-hike or trail run.  Remember to stay on the trails while out in the wilderness.  The bears, bobcats, coyote, deer, and mountain lions deserve to have their territory respected.

CONNECT

The benefit of having a small Lake Tahoe Community is that you think you know everyone.  The truth is, with so many travelers and visitors, you rarely do.  No matter the season, there are always events in which to participate and people with whom to mingle.

Connect with like-minded people by joining a local group like TRYP (Tahoe Regional Young Professionals).  Every meeting is full of energy and activity.  Your network is guaranteed to grow once you become a member.

Connect casually and support a local cause by attending one of the many fundraisers in the area.  SISLT (Soroptimist International of South Lake Tahoe) holds an annual Food and Wine event at which you can eat and drink to your heart’s desire.  While indulging in delicious food and wine, take the opportunity to meet new people.  You never know who will show up!

ENGAGE

Did you know that Tahoe has a growing artist community?  Beyond the Heavenly Village there is art and music everywhere!  Whether an artist or an art-lover, it is time to engage with our year-round resident artists.

Stop by High Vibe Society, an artisan collective, and meet Erin.  Her vision has become a reality of shared workspace and art showcase.  You can create, sell and buy artwork all in one spot.  You can join the society or support the cause from anywhere.

TAP (Tahoe Art Project) brings performing art to our area.  Their unique production of Tahoe Dancing with the Stars highlights well-known residents and change-makers in the community by pairing them with dance instructors from local dance studios.  They are always accepting donations with which they invite performers to the basin.

REBALANCE

Health and wellness are key when you live in a year-round playground.  As you have probably already heard, Yoga is making a comeback.  Along with it, Pilates, Aerial, Barre, Jazzercise and numerous other physical and mindful group activities are on the rise.  With all the outdoor adventure options, why should you be indoors?

A good Yoga class should include more than physical movement.  Ideally, everything you do while practicing should be a compliment and support your Tahoe Lifestyle.  At Lake Tahoe Yoga we instruct more than poses; you’ll learn how to breathe in a way that relaxes you so that you can remain calm during your next backcountry adventure and the grace and awareness required in every pose naturally translates in every turn and rock stairway you take on your bike.

Challenge your limits and float into fitness and awareness at The Studio Lake Tahoe.  Crissy has equipped the space with the highest quality pilates and art form materials.  Her private sessions will help you to reset back into your Tahoe Lifestyle.

RECOVER

After all of that exploration, engagement and rebalance and connecting, you might need some recovery.  Instead of zoning out in front of the television, get a massage, acupuncture treatment, chiropractic adjustment, or mani/pedi.  There are plenty of spots to choose from and some events offer local discounts.
