As of June 15, The Lake Tahoe Regional Fire Chiefs Association has declared the official burn ban for the season.

• Charcoal is prohibited in the city limits
• No open wood burning ever
• No burning whatsoever on red flag days
• Natural gas, propane and pellet barbecues, including pellet grills such as a Traeger, are still permitted, unless a red flag warning is issued.

U.S. Hwy 50 Tahoe Stateline to Spooner Summit construction update

The second and final season of the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) U.S. 50 repaving project between Spooner Summit and Cave Rock is scheduled to resume on April 27, 2026, and continue through October 2026. Expect continued single-lane closures and active construction on this 13-mile stretch to improve safety, paving, and infrastructure. More information here.

With the arrival of warmer weather, black bears will be emerging from winter dens and actively searching for food. This includes mother bears with new cubs of the year and, quite often, their yearling offspring, which were born the year before. After months without eating, adult bears and yearlings are hungry and especially motivated by strong smells. The cubs, meanwhile, will learn everything from their mother, including where to find food and what’s safe to eat. With more hungry bears on the landscape, it’s especially important to remain vigilant in keeping bears from accessing human-sourced food and garbage. Secure trash in bear-resistant containers, remove bird feeders, and keep outdoor grills and cooking areas clean. Preventing bears from becoming dependent on human-sourced food keeps them wild and largely free from conflict. CDFW provides many best practices on preventing human-bear conflicts here.
