Off The Beaten Path

There’s a plethora of fun hikes and bike rides to take within the Tahoe Basin, but we recommend setting aside some time for a short drive to some of the more remote sections of our area. Roar into spring by seeing the many waterfalls like the five-hundred-foot Horsetail Falls west of Echo Summit. In the summer, sing your way through the wildflowers on Carson Pass or fall in love with autumn by leaf-peeping in Hope Valley.

A road trip is all about the journey and does not need to end once you get to Lake Tahoe

Situated on the shores of Lake Tahoe and surrounded by the massive peaks of the Sierra Nevada, Lake Tahoe is the perfect base camp for day trip adventures. For history buffs or just those curious about the Wild West, a trip to the historic wooden boardwalk streets and re-enacted shoot-outs of Virginia City are a must. Sore from all those hikes and slopes you conquered? Well, just a short drive from the Tahoe Basin are a handful of world-class hot springs like the 1862 David Walley’s Hot Springs where Mark Twain was “relieved of pain and gained in spirit.”

Roads were made for journeys, not destinations.
