Before, During & After

Sustainability for Meetings

Here in Lake Tahoe, we take pride in knowing that while helping to create successful meetings and events, we can still maintain sustainability efforts and advocate for responsible tourism.

Sustainability Reigns Supreme in Lake Tahoe

Before, During & After Your Meetings

Planners looking for a meeting destination that blends irreplaceable scenery, exceptional venues, locally sourced cuisine and countless activities with a purpose to preserve and protect should look no further than Lake Tahoe. It can be as simple as taking your trash with you, drinking tap water while here or exploring the outdoors safely and responsibly. Luckily, there are plenty of ways your attendees can enjoy everything in South Lake Tahoe respectfully and sustainably.

Sustainable Solutions for Meetings & Events

Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority (LTVA) launched a sustainable travel initiative with Kind Traveler, the first socially conscious Give + Get hotel booking and education platform that empowers travelers to make a positive community and environmental impact on the destinations they visit.

Attendees can find resources and information about showing support through the Take Care Tahoe initiative — a tool for ecotourism seekers developed by a collective group of 30+ organizations that love Lake Tahoe and want to make it easier for people to find fun and interesting ways to learn more about our idyllic meeting destination.

Plus, your group’s participation in contributing to Lake Tahoe’s sustainability efforts comes with rewards such as exclusive rates and perks from curated Kind Hotels in Tahoe.

Participating Kind Hotels Include:

Edgewood Tahoe: This LEED silver certified eco-luxury alpine lodge was the first Kind Hotel to join the sustainable travel initiative in Lake Tahoe — and is offering exclusive hotel rates and perks as rewards for contributing to Take Care Tahoe, or a charity of choice, on Kind Traveler’s Give + Get hotel booking and education platform.

Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Lake Tahoe: One of the most widely recognized brands worldwide, Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Lake Tahoe, has also joined the initiative to empower travelers to support Take Care Tahoe — in addition to recently eliminating all plastic straws and transitioning to paper only to-go bags.

The initiative plans to onboard additional Kind Hotels in Lake Tahoe to further engage all stakeholders in the sustainable travel campaign.

Tahoe Blue Center

A Sustainable Start To New Developments

As if having your choice of over 25 conference and event venues in South Lake Tahoe weren’t enough, soon you’ll be able to host your next meeting at the new Tahoe Blue Center, opening in July 2023.

Construction is now underway, with more than 50,000 cubic yards of dirt being excavated from the site at Bally’s Lake Tahoe. In cooperation with Edgewood Tahoe and Tahoe Beach Club, the dirt is being repurposed for landscaping features and fill dirt — a significant environmental benefit to the project.

Show Support for the Wild Side

Education Meets Adventure in Lake Tahoe

The desire to explore the outdoors and embrace open-air settings through recreational activities like hiking and biking or enjoying a day on the water is at an all-time high. And as many of Lake Tahoe’s wild spaces see more traffic, it’s now more important than ever to make sure we are all doing our part to help preserve these places — whether it’s before, during or after your group’s meeting or event.

Lake Tahoe has come together with mountain towns around the country to encourage responsible tourism in wild places. These initiatives are part of the Pledge for the Wild program, aimed to welcome and educate groups on the importance of giving back and supporting sustainability efforts. Responsible Tourism is the concept of visiting somewhere as a tourist and trying to make a positive impact on the environment, society and economy.

Group Opportunities to Give Back & Support Sustainability

Lake Tahoe provides many opportunities for attendees to get involved in the community’s sustainability efforts and be a part of something bigger for the greater good — all while attending productive meeting sessions, team building and enjoying unmatched scenic views of the Lake Tahoe region. We make it easy for groups to go green and keep Tahoe blue thanks to plenty of unique opportunities and fun meeting activities that offer ways to give back, from citizen science projects and beach cleanups to park volunteers, trail days and much more.

Meetings Go Green to Keep Tahoe Blue

When your attendees embrace the idea of being exemplary visitors while meeting in Lake Tahoe, it not only contributes to maintaining our sustainability effort but helps ensure your group and others have the same cool, legendary meeting experiences today or next year.
