
Ideal Spring Skiing Conditions Enhance Late Season, Spring Getaway Options at South Lake Tahoe
March 10, 2025 (SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev.) – The powder train is just getting started with forecasts calling for a chance of snow nearly every day this week, portending excellent ski conditions for bluebird days to come in Tahoe. The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for Tuesday, March 11 through Thursday, March 13 with snow accumulations of 2-3 feet at the resorts and over a foot at lake level.
“Miracle March,” historically the area’s most prolific snowfall month, has already delivered several storms in its first few weeks totaling more than a foot of fresh powder. The California Department of Water Resources (DWR) conducted its monthly snow survey March 3 at Phillips Station near Sierra-at-Tahoe, with the snowpack measurements statewide at 85 percent of average. The next measurement is tentatively scheduled for April 2.
To prep for upcoming travel via car, Tahoe tourism officials recommend visitors stay prepared by continually monitoring road conditions and to check winter driving tips and key travel information at “Know Before You Go” and Responsible Recreation.

SKI RESORT SPRING EVENTS
Sierra-at-Tahoe will host the annual Subaru WinterFest with live music headlined by Boot Juice, a seven-piece funk, jazz band from Davis, Calif., along with Subaru schwag, the latest in adventure gear, free snacks and beverages, and doggie activities, March 15-16. Boarding for Breast Cancer (B4BC) returns with Pink Poker Run, and a silent auction to raise funds and awareness for B4BC’s breast cancer outreach, education programs and young survivor retreats, April 12. That same day, METHODOLOGY presented by Vans, features a banked slalom snowboarding competition and a new element before the finish line, allowing riders to shave time off of their run with their best Method Air trick. Sierra has multiple themed costume days, women’s clinics, live music in the pub, demo days with Never Summer, Capita Snowboards & Union Bindings and YES snowboards throughout the remainder of the season.
Heavenly Mountain Resort is hosting Heavenly Pride Day, filled with colorful festivities, live music, and breathtaking views in support of the LGBTQ+ community, on March 15. The iconic Gun Barrel 25 competition returns March 25, where participants of all ages strive to complete 25 laps down The Face, its legendary black diamond mogul run. A crowd favorite, the annual Pond Skim is on April 12, where competitors dressed in outlandish costumes gather speed and ski or ride straight into a pond. While many may be able to ski across, some hilarious splash crashes result. The DJ Cat (mobile snowcat) will be spinning tunes and the good times rolling with an after party and live music.
Spring events at Kirkwood Mountain Resort include The Vertical Drop, March 22, where teams compete for the most vertical feet on Kirkwood’s iconic Chair 10, “The Wall” with all proceeds benefiting the Wildland Firefighter Foundation. The International Free Skiers Association (IFSA) Freeride World Qualifier (FWQ) challenger series is where big mountain athletes earn points toward their overall world ranking as they tackle the Legendary Cirque (steep pitches and expert terrain surrounding Devil’s Corral), March 29-30. Kirkwood Banked Slalom held in Snow Snake Gully (under Chair 6) returns April 6 as a staple reflecting its hearty mountain community, followed by the Junior Freeride Championships with 360 athletes racing, April 6-13.

Tahoe Blue Event Center hosts Tahoe Knight Monsters hockey games: March 26, 28-30, April 9, 11-12; Tahoe Chamber: Go Local Business Expo, April 3; Avett Brothers, April 8; Glorilla: The Glorious Tour, April 13. Casino entertainment at Harrah’s Lake Tahoe South Shore Roomfeatures Niko Moon, April 24; Super Diamond – The Neil Diamond Tribune Band, April 26; Warren Haynes, April 29. The Buddy Emmers Blues Band continues its popular, long-term run every Tuesday evening in the Casino Lounge. Bally’s Lake Tahoe welcomes Umphrey’s McGee, March 17, and Red Not Chili Peppers, March 29. Gold Nugget Lake Tahoe Après Ski at Saltgrass Steakhouse patio offers live entertainment, drink specials, and giveaways Fridays and Saturdays 4-7 p.m.
