Fire Restrictions Now In Place For Lake Tahoe Basin
In addition to year-round campfire restrictions, enhanced campfire restrictions go into effect on National Forest lands in the Lake Tahoe Basin. Enhanced campfire restrictions will remain in effect through Nov. 30, or until rescinded.
Enhanced fire restrictions say campfires (wood, charcoal, pellets, or any solid fuels) are only permitted within permanently installed campfire rings in the campgrounds and recreation sites listed in Exhibits A and B of the Forest Order. Under these enhanced restrictions, campfires are now prohibited in Blackwood Canyon, Luther Pass and Watson Lake campgrounds.
Effective Monday, June 23, 2025, fire restrictions are in place for the City of South Lake Tahoe until further notice. No charcoal or wood fires are permitted during this time. The use of natural gas (NG), propane (LPG), or pellet BBQ grills, smokers, and firepits are permissible unless a red flag warning is issued.
“We ask that residents and visitors follow these fire restrictions to help minimize the potential of fire starts,” said Fire Chief Jim Drennan. “With the increase in dry fuels and high temperatures, there is a significant risk for fire danger and this is one way to prevent wildfires.”
As a reminder, during a red flag warning or critical fire weather conditions, open flames are not allowed which includes natural gas, propane, and pellet BBQ grills, smokers, and firepits. Additionally, open flame devices such as tiki torches and fireworks, including sparklers and firecrackers, are prohibited in California year-round. If you witness the illegal use of fireworks or campfires, please call 911.
Summer fire restrictions will be in effect June 23, 2025 for the Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District serving the communities of the Tahoe Township area until further notice. Fire restrictions prohibit all open burning.
Please note that federal and state lands campfire restrictions may differ. Check the local fire restrictions pertaining to your location. More information.
Emerald Bay Transit Pilot Program launched July 15, prompting parking changes, promoting new shuttle.
The SR89 Corridor no-parking pilot program began on Tuesday, July 15, 2025. There will be no parking along the highway from Cascade Lake to D.L. Bliss State Park, and the only parking allowed will be in the lined spots at Inspiration Point, Eagle Falls, and Vikingsholm. This program ends on Sunday, September 28, 2025.
The Tahoe Transportation District has installed temporary barriers to restrict access to illegal and unsafe roadside parking. A dedicated overtime unit from the California Highway Patrol will be stationed there to enforce the no-parking rules.
Knowing everyone wants to enjoy the beauty of Emerald Bay and with limited parking, a shuttle service has been launched that will take people to the area for the next 90 days during this pilot program.
