Fire Restrictions Now In Place For Lake Tahoe Basin
Effective Monday, June 23, 2025, fire restrictions are in place for the City of South Lake Tahoe until further notice. No charcoal or wood fires are permitted during this time. The use of natural gas (NG), propane (LPG), or pellet BBQ grills, smokers, and firepits are permissible unless a red flag warning is issued.
“We ask that residents and visitors follow these fire restrictions to help minimize the potential of fire starts,” said Fire Chief Jim Drennan. “With the increase in dry fuels and high temperatures, there is a significant risk for fire danger and this is one way to prevent wildfires.”
As a reminder, during a red flag warning or critical fire weather conditions, open flames are not allowed which includes natural gas, propane, and pellet BBQ grills, smokers, and firepits. Additionally, open flame devices such as tiki torches and fireworks, including sparklers and firecrackers, are prohibited in California year-round. If you witness the illegal use of fireworks or campfires, please call 911.
Summer fire restrictions will be in effect June 23, 2025 for the Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District serving the communities of the Tahoe Township area until further notice. Fire restrictions prohibit all open burning.
Please note that federal and state lands campfire restrictions may differ. Check the local fire restrictions pertaining to your location.
Construction updates
Motorists are advised to leave extra travel time as additional daytime lane reductions and shifts take place the week of June 8 on the U.S. 50 South Lake Tahoe casino corridor as part of a continuing Nevada Department of Transportation highway repaving project. More information.
The road construction season has begun in South Lake Tahoe, and with that comes the start of construction on the new roundabout in Meyers, CA, at the intersection of US-50 and Pioneer Trail.
- Construction is to start on May 1, 2025, and the traffic signals will be operational until about September 1, 2025.
- Expect heavy traffic in the area. Be mindful of one-way traffic controls, lane shifts, and detours. Please watch out for construction crews and vehicles. Be patient and give yourself extra time to get where you are going. Click here for more information.
- Remember, fines are doubled in construction zones. Slow down and move over for road crews – It’s the Law!
NEW LANE REDUCTIONS/SHIFTS U.S. 50 will be reduced to one lane in each direction between 8 p.m. and 8 a.m. for two nights, beginning June 29 through the morning of July 1 through the casino corridor between the Nevada-California state line and Lake Parkway. Work zone lane closures will routinely shift through the area as crews add a final one-inch top layer of sealer paving to the initial two+ inches of pavement. Motorists are reminded to budget extra travel time and drive attentively and slowly through the changing lane configurations and to detour around the area when possible. Access to businesses will be continuously maintained, but certain side streets and driveways will temporarily be impacted as paving takes place. Drivers will also see future lane reductions in the area for utility and traffic signal work, as well as final roadway striping. |
No Road Work During Holidays/Major Events Crews will not be working July 3 through July 13. Work will resume Sunday, July 13 at 9 p.m. |
