Most Scenic Bike Paths in Lake Tahoe

In a region surrounded by gorgeous alpine lakes, one-of-a-kind geological features, towering peaks, and lush forests, nowhere else can compare to Lake Tahoe’s beauty. To truly experience it up close and personal, we suggest stepping out of the car and hopping onto a bike. While there are miles of world-class singletrack to enjoy along with road cycling tours for those with a family, here’s three of the most scenic bike paths everyone can enjoy when biking Lake Tahoe.

Pope-Baldwin Bike Path
Length: 7.1 miles (round-trip)

Love the beach? Then look no further than the Pope-Baldwin bike path. It starts approximately one mile north of Highway 89 & Lake Tahoe Boulevard intersection, known as the “Y.” Meandering through old growth forests, the Tallac Historic site, aspen meadows, and Camp Richardson, there’s a lot to see. Along the full length of this easy 3.6-mile path, be sure to save some time and stop at the famed ice cream parlor at Camp Rich.

Note: This is THE BEST option to get to the beaches in the busy summer months as traffic gets snarled on the weekends.

Sawmill Road Path
Length: 3.6 miles (round-trip) or 12 miles for the entire route

One of the three segments that connects South Lake Tahoe to Meyers, this wide bike path weaves its way through a tall canopy of trees following parallel to Sawmill Road. Where the Lake Tahoe Boulevard path connects on the corner of Sawmill Road and Lake Tahoe Boulevard is the Sawmill Pond. It’s a perfect place for fishing, viewing wildlife, or relaxing on the benches. On the other end of the trail, it connects to the newly opened Pat Lowe Memorial Bike Path, which runs alongside the Lake Tahoe Golf Course taking you to Meyers. From Lake Tahoe High School all the way to Meyers, this multi-use path covers a distance of over 6 miles one-way.

Rabe Meadow Bike Path
Length: 4.8 miles (round-trip)

For those wanting a bike path not too far from town, look no further than this beautiful paved route. Starting with a short pedal from the bustling casino corridor, you’re immediately transported by Mother Nature. Beginning at Kahle Drive, it has unique features like boardwalks over wetland areas and is the first step to create a Nevada Stateline-to-Stateline Bikeway.

So, is Lake Tahoe a ski town with a beach problem or a beach town with a ski problem? Depending on who you talk to, it can go either way. Perspectives aside, we all can agree Lake Tahoe is home to some of the most scenic bike paths anywhere.
