There are no two trees about it, getting outside is good for you. From escaping the daily stresses to getting a bit of exercise, you’ll feel better, look better, and come home recharged and ready to take on the world. And when it comes to the outdoors, Lake Tahoe provides you with an almost infinite amount of options. In the winter, get your fill of snowy fun like skiing, sledding, or snowshoeing. In the warmer months, go for a hike, ride a bike, or enjoy the waters on a stand-up paddleboard. And if you’re here in the spring or fall, there’s a good chance you can have a bit of everything.

Explore the Outdoors at Lake Tahoe
What does Lake Tahoe have that other mountain towns don’t? You guessed it. An alpine lake to enjoy any time of year. You can shove off on a kayak or try your hand at paddleboarding via one the trailheads on the Lake Tahoe Water Trail. Go scuba diving in California’s first underwater state park and see shipwrecks more than a century old. You can even catch your dinner and have a local restaurant cook up that fish to order.

Off-road or paved. Cruiser or full suspension. When it comes to cycling adventures, you’ll find it in Lake Tahoe. Adrenaline junkie mountain bikers will find the aptly named Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride a serious challenge, even for the most serious biker. For athletic individuals, a ride on the world-famous Flume trail is a must. It gives you access to a bird’s eye view of Lake Tahoe that no other trail in the world can provide. And lastly, for a more mellow adventure that the entire family can enjoy, consider one of the many dedicated paved routes like the Pope-Baldwin Bike Path.
Vacations are about doing things that are different. Maybe a little out of your comfort zone, but most of all it’s supposed to create memories. Lake Tahoe has outdoor adventures like that in spades. Push your limits in a safe environment by trying SUP Yoga. See Tahoe like a bird via a hot air balloon or even bob five hundred feet above the waters with a parasail. A little too hair raising? Combine a hike with a little bit of competition and a whole lot of views by trying disc golf at Zephyr Cove.
From 5 to 100, hiking is one of those activities regardless of fitness level or age you can enjoy. If it’s your first time hiking, start slow on a mellow hike with a big reward like to Eagle Falls. For a bit more of a challenge with stunning views, head to what National Geographic has rated one of the top ten trails in the country – Van Sickle Bi-State Park. And then of course there’s always the more serious endeavor of Mt. Tallac. At over ten miles and nearly 3,255 feet of climbing, the view at the top, as well as the effort to get there, will surely take your breath away.
Shove off on a pair of cross-country skis below the flanks of Mt. Tallac. Do your best Griswold impression from National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation by going snow tubing. Embark on a one-of-a-kind journey on a snowmobile thousands of feet up to for a view of Tahoe that only a handful can enjoy in the winter. Ride waist deep pow and more!
