Treat Yourself to Some South Lake Tahoe Shopping

Days can be filled with all of the exhilarating outdoor activities in Lake Tahoe, while nights bring an entirely new flavor to Lake Tahoe. But sometimes you just need a bit of retail therapy.

Lake Tahoe has that covered too. Shopping here can be a sport in itself.

If you can take your eyes off of the sky-scraping peaks and glistening lake long enough, the multitude of quaint shops and dazzling galleries will entice you. Shopping centers contain many in one place, but dig deeper and you’ll find some shopping gems on their own also.

Retail stores are filled with items to remind you of your Tahoe experience, ranging from alpine attire and gear to toys for the littles and everything in between. Lake Tahoe’s galleries show off the exquisite talents of local artists, photographers, sculptors and crafters that you can take home as well. Here, stores with recognizable names neighbor locally owned shops.

And there’s an abundance of places to keep your treasure hunt going.

I like my money right where I can see it…hanging in my closet.

Gifts and Goodies

In a single stop to Heavenly Village, you can shop till you nearly drop. Anything Tahoe you seek can be found here. Thankfully, restful eateries can fuel you up while you sit down between perusing the 40-plus places the cobblestone paths guide you to.

Eclectic mementos and gifts can be found at the Welcome Home Shoppe in Ski Run Center. Collectibles, art and charming items for your home and garden await shoppers.

Looking for an eye-catching piece of jewelry or clothing inspired by Lake Tahoe’s own beauty? Pick up a Lake Tahoe pendant or other delicately crafted accoutrement at GaiaLicious Boutique.

At the Swiss Chalet Village, shop for contemporary clothing at Malena Boutique, or down the highway at the Tahoe Center find Ross Dress For Less and The Cork and More, a charming gourmet market. With T.J. Maxx offering something for everyone at a discount, in the same center you can also shop for healthy snacks at Grass Roots Natural Foods and libations at Bevmo!

Don’t forget your furry friends which you may or may not have left at home. Dog Dog Cat is must for those with four-legged family members.

Now that you’ve got your gifting (to yourself, as well) out of the way, let’s make room for play things.

Gearing Up

Some of Tahoe’s glorious year-round outdoor activities require equipment. But here you can find gear shops galore.

Pick a sport or four and get properly fitted out by pros at these local outdoor shops.

Whether it’s wheeled, waxed or for water, you can find all things related at the Powder House Ski and Snowboard in Ski Run Center. It’s long been a Tahoe staple for outdoor lovers.

At The Crossing at Tahoe Valley, you can chat about all the equipment you scored at Big 5 Sporting Goods, Mountain West and The Barn over a pint at Lake Tahoe AleWorX. Not far is Tahoe Bike Company on Harrison Avenue. They’ve got everything bike related you may need, including those cool electric jobs.

At Blue Zone Sports in the T.J. Maxx Center, sport enthusiasts will be like kids in candy stores with all the outdoorsy items found within.

Put all that shiny, exciting new gear away, then let your eyeballs roam over some exceptional local art found at the galleries.

Extraordinary Art

Works from artisans near and far line the walls and displays at Lake Tahoe’s bevy of art galleries.

Whimsical sculptures and bold window pieces lure lovers of aesthetics into Marcus Ashley Fine Art Gallery. If you’ve ever wanted to see Dr. Seuss’s works come to life, you must visit. Boasting a significant collection of original Dr. Seuss art along with captivating, large-scale photos, paintings to suit any taste and sculptures, this an inspiring first stop.

In the Heavenly Village, the Pacific Crest Gallery teems with Tahoe vibes, and, when near spectacular water bodies, surely there’s a Wyland Gallery to be found, and lovers of his works won’t be disappointed in Tahoe.

Tahoe Bliss is Also Found Indoors

Lake Tahoe is world-renowned for its epic outdoors and endless recreation, but exploring Tahoe from behind walls and windows can also be a blast. Places for children to play, shops to wander through, galleries to mesmerize art lovers plus dining and nightlife rivaling anywhere on the planet are just a few fun inside activities when you need a break from all that sunshine, gorgeous weather and fresh air. Hey, you may.
