Burning Spear is a pioneering roots reggae artist born Winston Rodney in St. Ann’s Bay, Jamaica. Emerging in the late 1960s, he became one of reggae’s most influential voices, known for his distinctive, meditative sound and lyrics centered on Rastafarian beliefs, African history, and social justice. His 1975 album Marcus Garvey is widely regarded as a cornerstone of roots reggae. Over a career spanning more than five decades, Burning Spear has received multiple Grammy Awards and remains a significant figure in Jamaican music.
