Where to have a Craft Cocktail in South Lake Tahoe

By: Lake Tahoe Staff

Summer is in full swing in Lake Tahoe. You can’t beat finishing off a day of outdoor activity with a refreshing cocktail. Staring at the shimmering Tahoe waters at sunset time reflecting on the day is a life well lived. So, where can you go in South Lake Tahoe for the perfect made craft cocktail? I recommend the following places.

1. Riva Grill

Riva Grill is in the marina off of Ski Run Boulevard. It’s touted as the premier lakefront location in South Lake Tahoe. They have a big indoor and a big outdoor patio. Yet we still recommend that you make a reservation during the busy season. You can valet your car for free or walk to it if you are staying in South Lake Tahoe. On Wednesdays, you can take advantage of their $5 off Wet Woody’s – their signature cocktail summer drink. If Wet Woody’s is not your thing, you can grab another craft cocktail. Take a look at their menu.

If you are hungry, I recommend getting the steamed clams or the ahi tuna poke.

2. The Landing Tahoe Resort and Spa / Jimmy’s Restaurant

When you want to escape the crowds in South Lake Tahoe, come to this hidden gem located right next to Edgewood. Jimmy’s Restaurant is part of the Landing Tahoe Resort and Spa. They are a pet-friendly hotel and you can even bring your best friend to the patio. Jimmy’s Restaurant is right across from the beach. Make sure to bring your camera or have your iPhone handy so you can record that amazing sunset or moonrise.

The bartenders at Jimmy’s Restaurant know their profession well. They will make you an amazing craft cocktail, at the same time sparking a great conversation with you.

So, what to order at Jimmy’s. They have a great selection of craft cocktails but we recommend these three.

Meet the Stroll Along Rainbow Walk, Vasilikos Mantarini, and Medusa’s Revenge – all great favorites!

This cocktail is inspired by Lake Tahoe’s very own local trail in Taylor Creek, Rainbow Walk – known for its rainbows in the morning dew as well as the underground observation area to the stream. It features fresh raspberries, Stoli Peach vodka, in-house infused mint sweetener as well as a splash of apple juice. It is exactly what you need on these hot days by the lake!

The second is a literal Greek translation for Basil Mandarin. They use Patron silver in all of their featured margaritas; this one specifically with muddled mandarins and basil and just a touch of lime to balance out the rich orange flavors. A house favorite!

Lastly – their green creation, Medusa’s Revenge! You won’t turn to stone with this one but instead, be asking for more! Seeking the flavors of the famous French Menton lemon in Grey Goose Citron, they add yet another infused sweeter – this one with rosemary, as well as a touch of Green Chartreuse. Topped with a little club soda, the herbs and spices combined with the citrus notes are perfect as an after dinner cocktail or a refreshing aperitif.

Take a look at their extensive menu list. They also have a huge wine cellar to choose from. And if you can’t find anything you like, they will make you a custom cocktail based on your choice of liquor.

My favorite dish at Jimmy’s Restaurant is the clams. They are light, buttery and cooked to perfection.

3. The Loft

Located in the heart of the Heavenly Village, you’ll want to go there for night life, atmosphere, and entertainment. It goes late into the night with live DJs. They have a full bar and an award winning wine list. Check out their food menu. The unique thing about The Loft is that you can make your own marshmallows. This makes it a great place to go and hang out after a day on the slopes or head there for dessert. If you enjoy a little bit of magic, then The Loft is for sure your best bet in South Lake Tahoe.
