Going car-free is entirely doable at Lake Tahoe. For a comprehensive guide to getting around, visit www.linkingtahoe.com. The app-based Lake Link, www.tahoelakelink.com, launched in summer 2022, allowing visitors and locals to request free rides in 9–12 passenger vans on the main thoroughfares from the casinos and the new Event Center in Nevada to the Al Tahoe neighborhood in South Lake Tahoe, approximately three miles from the state line.

Tourism officials “Awe and then Some” tagline aims to inspire trips centered around the lake, and “Preserving the Awe” it reinforces the desire for visitors to make memorable experiences while connecting with and respecting the beautiful natural environment. A simple way to accomplish this is to stay mid-week, off-peak visitation for a more intimate experience and to reduce impact to help preserve the awe and wonder of this special place. Visit Lake Tahoe, along with 18 other partners, released a Destination Stewardship Plan that identifies 32 actions across four strategic pillars: foster a tourism economy that gives back; Turn a shared vision into shared action; advance a culture of caring for the greater Lake Tahoe region; and improve the Tahoe experience for all. Key travel information is also available at “Know Before You Go.”
