Wednesday, July 22, 2026, 7:30 pm, The Great North Special in the Boathouse Theatre at Valhalla Tahoe.
The Great North Special was formed in Laguna Beach, California in 2019, forged through friendship and a collective passion for the improvisational magic of bands like The Grateful Dead. The band was birthed by songwriting partners, Andrew Corradini(vocals/guitar) and Russell Long(vocals/guitar), who began writing songs together in 2012. Their musical synergy laid the foundation for The Great North Special, which they envisioned as a platform to share their love for diverse genres, from country-funk and soul-blues to psych-rock and jazz. The six piece ensemble has had a few changes of personnel over the years, including the permanent addition of drummer Derek Eglit in 2024. The band then added guitarist/vocalist John Lovero(The Higgs) and keyboardist/vocalist Michael Russeck(Curse of the Keys) as permanent fixtures at the beginning of 2025.
In 2020, The Great North Special unveiled their self-titled debut EP, a four-track journey that showcased their musical versatility and captivating songwriting. Recorded and produced at their own Freak Farm Studio, the EP garnered attention for its rich tapestry of sounds and soulful performances. As the band refined their craft on stage, they became a mainstay in the Southern California music scene, leaving audiences spellbound with their electrifying live shows. They have played many of California’s favorite venues and festivals in their last few years of traveling the state. The hallmark of The Great North Special’s live experience is their ability to create a sense of communal celebration, where audiences become immersed in an ecstatic whirlwind of music and movement. Their improvisational and adventurous spirit knows no bounds, with each performance offering a unique musical odyssey filled with spontaneous moments of brilliance.
In 2022, the band released their single, “Love Service Devotion”, further solidifying their place in the Americana and jam music scenes. However, it is their debut LP, “Callithump Parade,” released in the summer of 2024, that marks a significant milestone in their journey. With support from the Laguna Beach Arts Commission, the band ventured into uncharted territory, crafting a 10-song vinyl masterpiece that encapsulates the essence of their identity. Teaming up with LA Producer/Engineer Jason Soda at Palomino Sound, The Great North Special captured the raw energy of their live performances while exploring new sonic territories. The album, recorded predominantly live in the studio, showcases the band’s versatility and songwriting aptitude, with each track offering a distinct musical narrative to accompany lyrical themes such as joy, love, nature, community, technology, spirituality, mental health, existentialism and pure celebration. Along with the album release, the band collaborated with musician/filmmaker Matt Costa to create a series of music videos, providing visual insight into their artistic vision. With “Callithump Parade,” The Great North Special invites listeners on a sonic journey through the heart and soul of their musical universe, promising an unforgettable experience for music lovers everywhere.
Now the band focuses their attention on the road, looking forward to sharing their tunes far and wide with all who are willing to participate and let loose with them. See you out there!

Whether you are dashing up to Lake Tahoe for a quick weekend getaway, camping out or renting a cabin for a week, or you live in the region, the Valhalla Art, Music & Theatre Festival at the Heller “Valhalla” Estate hosts northern California and northern Nevada’s premier and most eclectic arts festival, featuring entertainment for literally everyone. Valhalla, a hidden Lake Tahoe treasure, is located on the Lake’s southwest shore, three miles from South Lake Tahoe’s many hotels and restaurants, and is within walking and biking distance to several campgrounds, including Fallen Lake Campground and Camp Richardson.
The Valhalla Art, Music & Theatre Festival, is a total departure from the showroom and amphitheater shows offered by the casinos. The Festival offers a diverse array of entertainment from family-friendly musical and dramatic theatre to concerts with music from all genres, internationally touring artists, and the very best in local and regional acts, comedy improv, fine art shows and workshops, and children’s art and drama camps.
Valhalla Art, Music & Theatre Festival concerts and productions will take place in one of Valhalla’s three grand historic venues—the Grand Hall, with its massive 20-foot tall stone fireplace and walk-in hearth; the Grand Lawn, lush green grass that flows out from the Great Hall; and the restored Boathouse Theatre, a stunningly unique arced space that was restored in the late 1980s with the support and vision of the famed Dr. Leo Buscaglia that seats 164.
The Heller “Valhalla” Estate is one property on the Tallac Historic Site, a group of historic estates built in the late 1800s and early 1900s by wealthy West Coast timber barons and captains of industry as summer homes. Now owned by the United States Forest Service, the Pope, Baldwin, and Valhalla properties are operated by local nonprofit organizations and are preserved and restored to create a stretch of Lake Tahoe shoreline frozen in time. Visitors enjoy interpretive features, restored buildings, museums, and wonderful beaches. It is located next door to Camp Richardson, one of Tahoe’s longest operating resorts with a small hotel, cabins, campground, a general store, ice cream parlor, and the popular Grove Restaurant on the water. Valhalla is a quiet haven for exploration, picnicking, beach time, and the best arts and entertainment offered in the Tahoe Basin.
