Named for the rainbows that sparkle in the morning dew, the Rainbow Trail is a special place. It loops through the largest meadow/marsh at Lake Tahoe. Join a naturalist on the trail and discover how the meadow, marsh, and stream are connected to lake clarity.
Join us for an enchanting journey through nature’s vibrant palette on the Guided Rainbow Trail Walk. Nestled in the breathtaking landscapes of South Lake Tahoe, this guided walking tour at the Taylor Creek Visitor Center offers an unforgettable experience for nature enthusiasts.
Immerse yourself in the tranquility of the forest as our knowledgeable guides lead you along the Rainbow Trail. Discover the diverse ecosystems, and learn about the unique flora and fauna that call it home.
The Guided Rainbow Trail Walk provides an opportunity to connect with your national forest and appreciate the beauty of the great outdoors. Don’t miss the chance to explore one of South Lake Tahoe’s hidden gems and experience the magic of the Rainbow Trail. We look forward to welcoming you on this educational walk!
This tour is offered, free to the public, every Wednesday & Saturday at 10am between June 17th and September 27th. Be sure to bring water, waterproof shoes and please leave all pets and food/scented beverages at home or in the car.

Taylor Creek has something for everyone. Connect with a naturalist to get answers to your questions or learn new things. Get your maps, books, wilderness permits and/or National Recreation Pass. Take a casual walk along any of the four self-guided trails. Spot a butterfly, dragonfly, bird on the fly, or other wildlife. Study fish in their natural habitat at the Stream Profile Chamber. Enjoy the beach. Watch the Sunset. Or Attend an evening program.
The Great Basin Institute partners with the United States Forest Service and National Forest Foundation to present these programs and events.
