NorCal Bats at the Lake of the Sky Amphitheater at Taylor Creek
Friday, August 28, 2026, at 7:30 pm. Please join Great Basin Institute and the USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit for the Friday night program at the beautiful Lake of the Sky Amphitheater at Taylor Creek Visitor Center: NorCal Bats is one of our favorite presentations! Get up close and personal with a few of Tahoe’s flying mammals. NorCal Bats is a non-profit dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and release of bats. Perhaps hear some of these tiny creatures in flight, and debunk some myths surrounding them!

The Taylor Creek Visitor Center is located three miles north of the “Y” on Highway 89. For more information, call (530) 543-2674.
The amphitheater is a picturesque space for outdoor events and programming. During July and August, evening programs are held here, on topics such as resident wildlife, Tahoe folklore, and astronomy. With more than 30 benches and additional lawn seating, the amphitheater comfortably accommodates 200+ guests and is ADA accessible. This facility may also be used for informal public recreation, such as picnicking or stargazing.
Large groups and organizations may request to reserve the Lake of the Sky Amphitheater as a day or evening event space. Reservation fee is dependent on type of usage and event duration. Certain event activities are not permitted at Taylor Creek. For more information, or to reserve a date, please contact egavlock@thegreatbasininstitute.org or call 530-543-2674.
Sit under the stars and discover Taylor Creek’s Visitor Center’s Lake of the Sky Amphitheater. The open-air Lake of the Sky Amphitheater at the Visitor Center contains state-of-the-art audio-visual equipment where naturalists and visiting scholars give presentations to the backdrop of Mt. Tallac.
