TAMBA Mid-season updates and news – July 21, 2024

All the latest TAMBA news and upcoming events in JulyTAMBA Women’s Trails CollegeLast month, TAMBA hosted its first ever Women’s Trails College event at Heavenly’s Boulder Lodge. We talked trails, tools, and helmet tutus, all while celebrating the rad female trail builders who support TAMBA.Check out our blog for a full recap of the dayTrail UpdatesJuly marks the mid-way point in our trail building season and we’re making great progress on our major projectsMeeks Ridge TrailWe have crossed the 3-mile mark of the multi-year Meeks Ridge Trail project and are now working through a beautiful section of Tahoe old growth forest. The first 3 miles have amazing views and are fast and flowy with a few alternate lines and rock rolls sprinkled in to keep things spicy.

A huge thank you to Olympic Bike Shop in Tahoe City who again sponsored a trail work day at Meeks in early July. Shop staff generously hiked lunch out to our volunteers, ensuring the crew were well-fuelled for a big day in the field! Join us for our Meeks Ridge Community Dig Day and campout in August.
Kaspian RimTAMBA continues to build new singletrack on Kaspian Rim Trail. Volunteers have built roughly 2,000 feet of flowy new singletrack this year and are currently working on adding a 1.1 mile section to the trail already built by volunteers in 2023. The completion of this trail will create new loops and ride options in the Stanford Rock area, incorporating perfect dirt for forest flow and sweeping views of Blackwood Canyon. Come help us to push this trail to completion!
Lower Tyrolian RerouteOver 0.5 miles of trail have been built and dialed this spring and work has started on connecting to the original trail. Work on the bridge is in progress with both abutments built and secured into the approaches. Four 24 foot beams have been installed and the support blocking and handrails are currently being worked on. We expect the bridge and lower section to be open to the public by the end of July.
Road 73 BypassTAMBA volunteers have completed the first 0.25 miles of tread. Phase 1 of this project from Whoop-dee-doo to Bear Trap Connector is now open to the public and signed.
Head to our events calendar for the full line-up of upcoming volunteer trail days on these projects and moreRiding in Burn AreasWhile the recent storms have provided us with some great dirt for riding, they’ve also resulted in a number of downed trees in the Caldor burn areas.

Remember to exercise caution when riding after a storm or heavy rain and watch out for downed or falling trees. We encourage you to submit conditions reports on Trailforks to keep the community informed. You can also let our trail crew know about downed trees by emailing us at trails@tamba.orgBasin Wide Trails Analysis Project UpdatesThe US Forest Service LTBMU has provided an update on the status of the Basin Wide Trails Analysis Project in response to questions from interested community members and stakeholders. Read the update here.

Brian LevyEvery month, we’ll be highlighting a volunteer, donor, or community partner who’s gone above and beyond to support TAMBA’s work. None of the awesome things we achieve would be possible without the Trail Legends who volunteer their time and expertise to work with us.

This month’s Trail Legend is community champion and Tahoe Mountain Bike Festival co-founder, Brian Levy.Check out our blog to learn moreTAMBA PHOTO HIGHLIGHTSFrom top:
