Extreme wildfires now occur with increasing regularity in western North America and other parts of the world. These wildfires generate large plumes of smoke and ash that can travel thousands of miles and persist for weeks or longer in the atmosphere.
Join Chris Smallcomb from the Reno office of the NOAA National Weather Service for a look into the latest projections for this coming winter. He will also look back at the wild year that was 2023 and dive into what we witnessed both weather- and climate-wise.
Join siblings—Herman and Helen Fillmore, members of the Washoe Tribe of Nevada and California—as they tell the legend of how Washoe trickster brothers, Puwecili and Damalali, shaped the Tahoe Basin.
Climate change is already impacting the Lake Tahoe Basin and even more change will arrive in coming decades. In response, agencies and communities throughout the Basin are beginning to develop plans and actions to enhance their capacities to adapt to climate change.
Virtual lectures are recorded and will be available on the UC Davis TERC website at https://tahoe.ucdavis.edu/recorded-lectures and also on the TERC YouTube channel at https://www.youtube.com/c/ucdavistahoe
