The community is invited to join Stella Van Dyke Johnson American Legion Post 795 members for a Memorial Day ceremony at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 26, 2025. The ceremony is at Happy Homestead Cemetery at 1261 Johnson Blvd. in South Lake Tahoe.
After the ceremony, everyone is invited to the American Legion Hall at 2748 Lake Tahoe Boulevard for a Taco Bar lunch and live music!
“On Memorial Day, we honor the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military,” said Auxiliary President Carol Olivas. “Please join us for the ceremony at the cemetery, then head over to the American Legion Hall for a Taco Bar and get to know our members.”
Happy Homestead Cemetery is the final resting place for more than 600 local veterans. Volunteers are needed to place American flags at their gravesites on Friday, May 23, at 10 a.m. and take them down on Tuesday, May 27, at 10 a.m.
The American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary and Sons of the American Legion are actively seeking new members and volunteers. If you’re interested, please stop by or give them a call at 530-541-8788.
