Lake Tahoe Polar Plunge

April 29 @ 5:03 pm

Special Olympics Nevada is inviting the community back to Lake Tahoe this spring for its annual Polar Plunge, a fundraiser built around a cold-water jump and a circus-inspired theme.

The event, set for Saturday, May 2, will take place at Round Hill Pines Beach Resort in Zephyr Cove. Organizers are branding this year’s edition “The Greatest Plunge on Earth,” encouraging participants to show up in circus-themed costumes and take part by hopping, skipping, running, jumping, or diving into Lake Tahoe.

Registration begins at 9:30 a.m., followed by a welcome address at 10 a.m. Pre-plunge activities run from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., with a costume parade starting at 11:30 a.m. The plunge itself is scheduled for 12 p.m. Lunch will be served at 12:15 p.m., and costume prizes will be awarded at 12:40 p.m.

Anyone who raises $125 will receive a Lake Tahoe Plunge T-shirt, a lunch ticket, and entry into the event’s activities. A 50/50 raffle is also planned.

The Polar Plunge is a major annual fundraiser supporting Special Olympics Nevada, which provides year-round sports training and competition for more than 2,653 athletes statewide. Funds raised also support athlete health, education, and leadership programs aimed at increasing inclusion and community participation.

Sponsors for this year’s event include Silver Sponsors Fiserv, Greater Nevada Credit Union, Tungsten Engineering Contractors and Sectran Security. Bronze Sponsors include America First Credit Union, Renown, and Tholl Fence.

Registration through the Special Olympics Nevada website.
