Art League Artist Talk/Community Mixer is on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at 5:00 pm. This event is open to the public. There will be a brief meeting at 5:00 pm and then, at 6:00 pm, a talk by artist Mel Smothers. Mel is working on a new series of paintings inspired by Dorothea Lange’s Photographs.
Mel Smothers is an American contemporary artist born on the West Coast of the USA in 1947. Smothers evolved as an artist in Pop Art America during the ’60s and ’70s, working alongside his contemporaries Andy Warhol and Wayne Thiebaud. Thiebaud would later become Smothers’ University professor and a forefront figure of American Pop Art.
Mel Smothers currently exhibits in galleries nationwide.
