Long time Tahoe locals, Jesus “Chuy” Ahumada and Stacey Hernandez transformed a dream into reality when they opened Sombreros Mexican Restaurant in 2017, giving their prior success with catering a home for everyone to enjoy.

Chuy and Stacey share family recipes with the flavors of Ameca, Jalisco, in the delicious tacos, burritos, tortas, and many other Mexican favorites. You’ll feel like you’re part of the family cookout with the kids, Melody, Melissa and Jesus Jr, sitting nearby and mama y papa helping in the kitchen. It’s not just family-owned, but fully family operated!

While the tacos from their catering business, Tacos Por Favor, have always been a hit since the day when Chuy and Stacey “catered” their daughter’s baptism party, the restaurant offers a variety of other favorites from chile rellenos to fajitas to enchiladas to tortas and burritos. Sombreros also continues offering “Neighborhood Burgers” (from the prior restaurant at the location where Chuy cooked for) and a great selection of American and Mexican breakfast choices, served all day long. And don’t miss out on the soft served ice cream on your way out!

The family and food is complimented with an ongoing dedication to their friendship with the community. Chuy and Stacey have historically donated food and services to support events such as Veterans Day at the American Legion, Cinco de Mayo celebration for the Family Resource Center, and St Theresa’s Church and they now extend their support too local schools and other worthy causes through Sombreros.
