| Spring 2022 Planting Summary Unexpected snows in April and May led to an interesting planting season this spring. While the weather continually surprised us and planting dates changed multiple times, over 9,000 trees still got in the ground in to date! We planted mostly sugar pines and some Jeffrey pines where appropriate. The fun is not over yet, however! |
| We have about 2,000 seedlings to plant in the Caldor Fire Burn Scar near Kirkwood at the end of May and early June! This area needs our help! Please RSVP on our Facebook page and check our Calendar as well! Seedlings, tools and instructions are always provided at our plantings. We recommend wearing closed toe shoes, layers and sun protection at all of our outings. Plan to pack a picnic lunch for our plantings in May and June. Wednesday, May 25 Martin Meadow Planting 10am – 2pm Help us reforest the Caldor fire at Martin Meadow Campground! Join Patagonia and Kirkwood employees for a day in the forest to plant trees. Saturday, May 28 Martin Meadow Planting 10am – 1pm Help restore western white pine and red fir at Martin Meadow Campground in the Caldor Fire burn scar. Wednesday, June 8 Thunder Mountain Planting 10am – 2pm Join Patagonia and Kirkwood employees in restoring western white pine and red fir in the Caldor Fire burn scar across from Kirkwood. Saturday, June 11 Thunder Mountain or Lake Margaret Trailhead 10am – 1pm This is a tentative, back-up planting scheduled in case we don’t get all of our seedlings in the ground at earlier plantings. It is likely to happen so stay tuned! Thursday, June 16 Echo Summit Hike 9am – noon Join us on a guided hike to look at the effects of the Caldor Fire around Echo Lakes. Please RSVP at the Tahoe Rim Trail Association website once this event is listed there with additional details. |
| Watering Evenings begin in June! Join the FUN! South Shore: Meet at the TJ Maxx Parking lot @6pm starting Tuesday, June 14 North Shore: Meeting Points TBD, will be posted on FB & Calendar @6pm starting Thursday, June 16 We will be watering recently planted seedlings planted around South Lake Tahoe and various locations around North Shore, including: Incline Village, the FS 06 Road in Truckee, and Carnelian Bay area planting sites.
