6:30 pm - 7:30 pm

July 15 @ 2:30 pm

Tuesday, July 15, 2025, 6:30 pm, Join the Lake Tahoe Historical Society for another one of its summer Tahoe History Talks on the Beach at Lakeview Commons in South Lake Tahoe (1004 Lakeview Ave., South Lake Tahoe).

“Mysterious Scott, King of the Desert Mines,”a Chautauqua performance of Death Valley Scotty and his benefactor Bessie Johnson. No one is more closely tied to the mysterious lore of Death Valley than Walter Scott. His tales of fabulous gold mines, dangerous desperados, and opulent desert castles placed him and Death Valley on the front pages of newspapers for over fifty years… and kept historians endlessly occupied trying to sort out the truth from his tall tales. Death Valley historians David and Gayle Woodruff, assume the characters of the inscrutable,“ Death Valley Scotty” and the wife of his benefactor and the real owner of Scotty’s Castle, prim and scrupulous Bessie Johnson.

All talks are at Lakeview Commons in South Lake Tahoe. Join them on the steps at the shore for an hour of interesting topics and entertainment. The Commons is located at 1004 Lakeview Avenue. The Lake Tahoe Historical Society brings these free events to you, and donations are appreciated.

The History Museum and Bookstore are open Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. (except Thursday, July 4th) until the end of August. Admission is free. Programs are suitable for all ages.
