The Annual Snowshoe Thompson Ski & Snowshoe Celebration returns once again to the Sierra on Saturday, April 19, 2025, 1:00 – 4:00 pm. at the Lake Tahoe Historical Society Museum Complex located at 3058 Lake Tahoe Blvd.

Join us as for this free event! Hot chocolate, coffee and cookies for a donation. Raffles. Snowshoe Thompson books and merchandise for sale. All are welcome!

From 1856 to 1876 Snowshoe Thompson made 90-mile ski treks over snowdrifts up to 50 feet high through blizzards with 80 mph winds, to deliver mail between California and Nevada over the Sierra Nevada.

The family-friendly event is free and open to the public.

The schedule:

  • Chautauqua performance by David Woodruff as Snowshoe Thompson and Gayle Woodruff as Agnes Thompson.
  • Nordic Folk Dancing – A demonstration of traditional Norweigan folk dances by the Sacramento Area Nordic Dancers with audience participation.
  • Longboard Ski Enthusiast – Adam Henriques, a 2023 World Champion Longboard Ski Racer and Meyers resident will be on hand to talk about his handmade longboard skis and racing history.
  • Visit the tables of Friends of Snowshoe Thompson, El Dorado County Historical Museum, and the Mormon Station Historic State Park.

There will be raffles, cookies, coffee, and hot chocolate for a donation. The museum will be open following the presentations.

The Museum Complex is located at 3058 Lake Tahoe Boulevard, South Lake Tahoe, Calif.
