Planning a getaway with the girls? Here are three steps to having a great vacation in South Lake Tahoe!

Step One: Pick your mountain(s)

With three resorts within easy distance from South Lake Tahoe, Lake Tahoe is the perfect basecamp for your girls’ getaway. Why not try all three?

Sierra at Tahoe: Laid-back vibe, fun terrain for all skill levels, and small enough you’re never too far from your friends – or a glass of wine.

Kirkwood Mountain Resort: It’s about an hour’s drive from South Lake Tahoe, but so worth it. Kirkwood has challenging terrain, wide-open bowls, and delicious burgers served with sunshine and views.

Heavenly Mountain Resort: Right in the heart of the South Shore, Heavenly is the largest resort at Lake Tahoe, covering both California and Nevada terrain. The lake views from the runs are not to be missed!

Step Two: Refuel

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day – especially when you’re planning on skiing or snowboarding for the better part of it. If you can get everyone out the door in the morning, stop in at one of the local breakfast joints. Personal favorites: Bert’s CaféGetaway Café in Meyers (on the way to Sierra!).

Picking a restaurant for dinner for a group can be challenging, but the comprehensive menus at The Beacon at Camp Richardson and the Restaurant at Zephyr Cove Resort will have something for everyone. Basecamp Pizza located in the Heavenly Village has yummy pizzas and a fun atmosphere. Plus, they’re at the base of the Heavenly Gondola.

Of course, your trip is not complete without a cocktail (or two). Stop in at Riva Grill for happy hour Wet Woody’s, and at Jimmy’s at The Landing for wine tastings and delicious appetizers. MacDuff’s Public House has a nice local’s vibe, and Toast Tahoe has an upscale atmosphere without being stuffy.

Step Three: Recover

When it’s time to relax those sore muscles, Onsen Spa at MontBleu Casino Resort is a full-service salon and spa, along with a fitness center, saunas, massage rooms, whirlpool baths and fabulous eucalyptus steam rooms. Get a relaxing massage or facial, or just hang out in the 10,000 sq. ft. pool with a 10 ft. waterfall.

If you’re looking for a little more pampering, Perfectly Polished Nail Spa, located in Heavenly Village, has enough stations for any size group. Share a bottle of wine at Red Poets and Skyhawk Lanes tasting room a few doors down before settling into your mani/pedi.

Step Four: Dance!

It’s not just the ski slopes that are action-packed… try to save some energy for the nightclubs! For the hottest parties in town, try PEEK at Harrah’s or Opal Ultra Lounge at MontBleu.

Don’t forget to take pictures! In addition to the bathroom selfies and group shots on the slopes, take some time to drive out to Emerald Bay. It’s an iconic view, and you wouldn’t want to miss it. Plus, this will be the one photo you’d be able to share with your jealous co-workers when you get back home!
