The Action Sports Marketing Club at South Tahoe High School (STHS) is hosting a rail jam/slopestyle contest at Heavenly Mountain Resort this Saturday, February 22 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. in the resort’s Groove Park.
This event is free for everyone but a lift ticket is needed to get to the course. There are three rails and two jumps on the course and a trick contest is part of the day’s festivities.
This is the second annual rail jam the Action Sports Marketing Club (ASMC) has put together, and this year’s musical guest is a very special addition. DJ John Summit, who has two sold-out shows at the Tahoe Blue Event Center this week, has volunteered to put on a show for the rail jam.
Besides the music, there will be a lot of gear giveaways and prizes.
STHS Senior Piper Arnold said the club has been working with the Heavenly marketing team and terrain park managers to put this event.
The vision of the ASMC spawned from an idea founding club members had with the desire to learn more about the business and marketing side of freeskiing, snowboarding, skateboarding, wakeboarding, and other action sports. The ASMC goal is to develop and nurture leadership skills in each student while encouraging cooperation and friendship within a business environment. The ASMC has an ultimate goal of preparing the next generation of problem solvers for life.
This is the third year the club has been active at STHS. They are a non-profit and can put on events like the rail jam due to donations and funds they raise. Last fall the club created a ski movie and showed it at the Heavenly Cinema. There are 50 students in the club, and Piper says they join because they found something fun to do that fits their interests.
The club has Zoom calls with the owners of their sponsors, they talk to professional skiers and those in the industry, learn how to market their own clothing brands, and other marketing and business tools.
The sponsors for the rail jam include BlueZone Sports, Line Skis, Surface Skis, Armada Skis, 4West Apparel, Arsenic Anywhere, Sports LTD, Powderhouse, Heavenly Ski Resort, Addicks, Whiplash, Pit Viper, Faction Skis, Leki Pole, as well as accessories from two students who have created their own lines.
See their Instagram page @asmc.sths for more information.
They hope to see the community on the slopes. Coming soon, ASMC will be hosting a night rail jam.
