Playboi Carti, born Jordan Terrell Carter on September 13, 1995, in Atlanta, Georgia, is an American rapper renowned for his experimental musical style and enigmatic public persona. He began his music career under the moniker Sir Cartier in 2011, uploading tracks on SoundCloud, and later rebranded as Playboi Carti in 2013. In 2014, he joined the underground label Awful Records, collaborating with artists like Ethereal, who helped shape his distinctive sound.
Carti gained mainstream attention with his debut mixtape in 2017, featuring hits like “Magnolia” and “Woke Up Like This” with Lil Uzi Vert. His debut studio album, Die Lit (2018), peaked at number three on the U.S. Billboard 200. After a two-year hiatus, he released Whole Lotta Red (2020), debuting number one on the Billboard 200 and receiving critical acclaim.
In 2024, Carti featured on ¥$’s single “Carnival,” marking his first song to top the Billboard Hot 100. He is scheduled to release his third studio album, I Am Music.
Beyond music, Carti is known for his gothic fashion and has been involved in the fashion world, often recognized as a style icon.
